Post Pentecost People

June 1, 2006

Dear Friends,

In recent years many of us have got used to hearing the
phrase “post-modern” applied to the late 20th and now 21st
Century. It is a phrase that is used to describe the sort
of society we live in, which largely does not believe in
objective truth or the existence of God or… many of the
assumptions of previous ages. Many think of it as a new era
where you can work things out for themselves rather than
receive truths from others.

As Christians we find ourselves not sharing such views but
wanting to tell others about the truth of Jesus. The first
Christians wanted to do the same and they discovered that
the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, (that we read
about in Acts 2), enabled them to do just that. We are not
“Post Modern People” but we are “Post Pentecost People” –
people who are living after Pentecost in the power of the
Holy Spirit. On June 4th, which is Pentecost Sunday we
are starting a Sunday Morning Teaching Series called “Post
Pentecost People are….” We will look at some of the
characteristics of Christians in the light of Pentecost. We
are called to be fruitful, obedient and powerful as well as
people together in community. You will find the details of
the series later in the Newsletter.

The book of Acts shows us how the Holy Spirit worked
through ordinary people like us to spread the Good News of
Jesus and the New Testament invites us to follow in their
footsteps by asking the Holy Spirit to fill our lives day
by day. Compared with Christmas and Easter, Pentecost is
somewhat overlooked but the truth of God at work through
His Spirit is one that we neglect at our peril. If you
would like to know more about what Pentecost means join us
on June 4th and in the weeks to come or contact me to ask
more.

With warmest Christian Greetings
Kath Pawlett
