A prayer, which has been offered by tens of millions of people, for several decades, the majority of whom have probably never thought of it as a prayer, is the National Anthem.
God save our gracious Queen! Long live our noble Queen!
God save the Queen! Send her victorious, Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us, God save the Queen.
Thy choicest gifts in store On her be pleased to pour,
Long may she reign. May she defend our laws,
And ever give us cause, To sing with heart and voice,
God save the Queen.
As we share together in celebrating the Queen’s platinum anniversary, it is an acknowledgement that God has heard, and answered, those prayers.
In one of her Christmas broadcasts, she said: “The teachings of Christ have served as my inner light…” In a politically correct world where holding strong religious convictions is frowned upon and holders of such beliefs subject to abuse, she has been a tremendous example of faith and belief in Jesus Christ.
During the Coronation, there was a secret moment when the Queen was anointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury with the oil of Chrism. This is considered to be the most holy part of the ceremony. The Queen described this as the moment when God created a new relationship between Him and her, granting her the divine graces that she as Queen would need to do his will.
One of the Queen’s guiding principles of Jesus teaching is the ‘golden rule,’ where Jesus summed up the whole law as.
“So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.”
That is a good guiding principle for us all.
Heavenly Father, thank you, for graciously hearing our prayers for the Queen, and sustaining her throughout her reign. May you continue to protect and bless her and her family as they serve you and this nation. In Jesus Christ we pray. Amen.
