Dear Friends,
I hope that you have enjoyed the Summer and feel refreshed as we start the beginning of the new Methodist year. I can’t believe that I have been here a year now, but I feel excited by all that the Lord has in store for us during this coming year. My screen saver today is a beautiful picture of a lake and mountains in Colorado. The colours are vibrant and the sun that is just poking over the top of one of the mountains is sending rays down that touch the lake and cause it to glisten in the early morning sunshine.
There are several places in the Bible where the sound of many waters is mentioned. Sometimes the sound of many waters is used to describe the noise the nations make as they stand in opposition to God and his ways – a cacophony of sound that is chaotic, unruly, yet is silenced by the power and might of God, the one who reigns in majesty.
One of my favourite books, ‘Hinds Feet on High Places’, uses the image of a waterfall to describe how creation gives itself willingly to praise God – thundering over the edge to lift its voice to worship him. God’s creation praising him, declaring his goodness as it shouts to the heavens in surrender and worship of him.
The resurrected Jesus in his ascended glory has the voice of many waters. The wonderful passage in Revelation of how Jesus is today, seated in glory, makes known the power, greatness and glory of Jesus. Finally, the sound of many waters also refers to the great multitude in heaven singing praise to God as they cry, ‘Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty reigns’. All perfectly in
tune, in perfect harmony.
How wonderful to know that as we go through the difficulties and joys of life our droplets of praise join with all the other droplets, to join with all the praise of heaven in a continual outpouring of praise and glory to Jesus – the one seated on the throne. The more we worship him, the more we see who he truly is. Our praise isn’t dependent on how much of his power and love we have seen today – it’s based on who he is and who he is all the time. The truth is – Our God reigns – yesterday, today and forever! Amen!
With love,
Jane
