Release International was founded in 1968 and now in its 50th anniversary year, Pastor Richard Wurmbrand’s passionate plea, “Don’t abandon them!” continues to inspire Release’s ministry serving persecuted Christians around the world. In his autobiography, Tortured for Christ, Richard made eight clear pleas to believers in “unrestricted” countries to help, remember and take action on behalf of our persecuted family. In Matthew 5:44 Jesus commands all his followers to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you”, and one of Richard’s pleas is to “Pray for the persecutors, that they may be saved”. This year, as we continue to pray for persecuted Christians, we now have the opportunity to pray for their persecutors as well. Every Sunday throughout 2018 a new prayer will be published on the Release website which will enable you to pray for those who persecute our brothers and sisters around the world. Richard was convinced that praying for the people who promote hatred and violence against Christians is an important way in which Christians who enjoy religious freedom can directly support their persecuted family.
